Bamboo salt has a lot of benefits for your skin. It's highly alkaline, and can improve your complexion by reducing toxins and inflammation. It also contains minerals that can help hydrate the skin, making it soft and smooth. Bamboo salt can be used both internally and externally to improve your skin health and appearance.
Why Consume Bamboo Salt For Skin?
Korean bamboo salt, known as jugyeom, is a type of high quality sea salt that's made by sealing sea water into a hollow bamboo stalk with clay and then roasting it at high heat for up to ten hours. This process removes dangerous contaminants such as heavy metals and micro-plastics which are found in many commercial salts while simultaneously infusing it with essential minerals. Why does this matter? Our skin is greatly affected by the toxins it encounters. Reducing or eliminating toxins helps to improve cellular function which will improve your overall complexion. In addition, our skin needs minerals just like the rest of our body to detox and engage in cellular repair. The minerals in bamboo salt act as an antioxidant by stimulating various antioxidant enzymes and reducing oxidization, which is tied to aging and disease processes. Bamboo salt can also improve our fluid and electrolyte balance due to its high mineral content. When our fluids are deficient or imbalanced, this causes dryness in the skin, which will lead to premature signs of aging, such as wrinkles. Another unique feature of bamboo salt is its alkalinity. Many people eat a diet that is overly acidic. Consuming sugar, flour, and excessive amounts of meat, alcohol, and coffee tips one’s biological pH scale toward acidic. An acidic internal environment can lead to inflammation and issues with the skin. Bamboo salt, with a pH ranging from 10.10 to 11.5, is a convenient and effective way to tip the pH scale towards alkaline, thereby improving complexion.
How to Use Bamboo Salt Externally for Skin Health
- As a salt scrub and facial mask, bamboo salt is an effective skin cleanser and is great for removing dead skin cells and toxins. It can also reduce inflammatory acne, dermatitis, and help treat a variety of conditions, including psoriasis and eczema. Simply combine 1 tsp of bamboo salt with 2 tsp oil (ghee, coconut oil, or olive) and massage into skin, then rinse.
- Bamboo salt can also be used for nasal irrigation and to treat a sore throat. Dissolve 1/10 tsp in 8oz water and rinse sinuses or eyes.
- For foot and general skin care, dissolve 3 tsp in 1 gallon of warm water and soak for approximately 30 minutes, then rinse with water.
Consuming bamboo salt and using it in skincare can offer many benefits to skin health.
