We are living in very uncertain times where it is difficult to plan for the weekend let alone next month. It seems many of us are moving from feeling some kind of comfort in the chaos to feeling stuck and anxious because we no longer know how long this will last. Because of the uncertainty, it’s easy to fall into old habits that don’t serve us.
At the beginning of the pandemic, I found myself sleeping more than I usually do and skipping exercise and meditation which are part of my non-negotiable activities of the day. I went back to my old habits and started to notice the difference in my body and mind: I felt more anxious and fearful, and I was gaining weight and felt tired throughout the day. I knew these symptoms weren’t normal; the body needs consistency and attention to function well.
It took time and determination to come back to my healthy habits -- yet, feeling good is always worth the try.
There are lots of tips and advice you can find on the internet about feeling grounded, staying healthy, reducing anxiety, and learning to make this reality our new normal. I’m going to give a few Ayurvedic and personal strategies I’ve been using to remain stable and sane throughout all of this.
