Infants and Babies
Chyawanprash is generally not recommended for infants or babies due to the potency of medicinal herbs.
Chyawanprash for Kids
Chyawanprash is highly beneficial for children as a preventive medicine. When researchers studied the effects of Chyawanprash on healthy children between the ages of 5 and 12, they found the kids who received approximately 6g of Chyawanprash daily showed more than 2 times protection from episodes of infections or allergy related conditions as compared to the control. In addition to better immunity, the kids also showed better percentage improvement in energy levels, physical fitness, strength, stamina and quality of life.
Below are specific recommendations for Chyawanprash dosage for kids by age.
- Chyawanprash for 2 year olds – 2 year olds can receive 1/8 teaspoon or 1.25g per day
- Chyawanprash for 3 year olds – 3 years old can receive 1/4 teaspoon or 2.5g per day
- Chyawanprash for 4 year olds – 4 years old can receive 1/4 teaspoon or 2.5g per day
- Chyawanprash for 5 year olds – 5 years old can receive 1/4 teaspoon or 2.5g per day
- Chyawanprash for children aged 6 and older – Children age 6 and older can receive 1/2 to 1 teaspoon or approximately 5g to 10g per day
Chyawanprash dosage for adults
Adults can receive 1 to 2 teaspoons of 10g to 20g per day.
Chyawanprash for seniors
Adults over 60 can receive 1/2 to 1 teaspoon or 5g to 10g per day.
As you can see, the dosage is largely dependent on your age. Other factors may include the specific recipe of the Chyawanprash that you’re using.
How to Use Chyawanprash
The best time to take Chyawanprash is in the morning on an empty stomach at least 15 minutes before breakfast. Taking it on an empty stomach ensures the remedy’s nutrients can penetrate deep into the body’s tissues without interference from digestion, thus maximizing health benefits. Consuming Chyawanprash on an empty stomach will also help to stimulate your agni and prime your digestive tract for breakfast.
The most effective way to take Chyawanprash is by licking it slowly and mindfully off of a spoon. You can also follow it with hot water or mix it directly into a glass of hot water to drink as a tea.
