Ayurvedic Treatments for Detoxification

PIOR Living / Ayurveda / Ayurvedic Treatments for Detoxification

March 24, 2020 by Joseph Oliveto

Your body is exposed to a wide range of toxins over the course of a given day. In Ayurveda, these toxins are referred to as ama. The accumulation of ama in the body can result in many health issues.

That’s why it’s important to detox with Ayurvedic treatments. Your wellness improves substantially when you remove ama from the body.

Ayurvedic Treatments for Removing Toxins

Start Your Day Off Right

This is a simple treatment you can start your day with. Simply begin the morning with a cup of warm water and some lemon. This helps to activate your digestive system. As a result, you’re more likely to expel toxins. It’s worth noting that this benefit has been confirmed by modern scientific research.

You might also want to add a teaspoon of chyawanprash and ghruta to your water. This ancient Ayurvedic formula contains a range of ingredients that support your health and detoxification pathways.

Additionally, you need to eat the right foods in the morning to ensure the proper removal of toxins. That’s why it’s important to learn your dosha type. The right food for one dosha type isn’t necessarily the right food for another.

Exercise

You probably already know it’s important to exercise throughout the day. If you needed another reason to work out, you should know that Ayurvedic experts recommend it as a simple but effective means of removing ama.

Gentle exercises, such as yoga, can restore the balanced flow of prana (your essential life-force energy). This facilitates detoxification and boosts your overall wellness. Gentle exercises will also stimulate the digestive system, aiding in the removal of toxins.

Apply a Honey Face Mask

Removing ama from the interior of the body is important. However, you also need to remove ama from your skin to fully detox.

Honey can help in this capacity. Simply cover your face with a spoonful of honey before getting into a shower or bath. While this may seem uncomfortable, the heat from the water will make it easy to remove the honey. Because it has natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, honey is very effective at removing toxins.

Consider Panchakarma

The treatments described above are all fairly simple. They don’t require a major time investment. That said, there are instances when it makes sense to step back from your life and thoroughly detox.

Panchakarma gives you this opportunity. Meaning “five actions” in Sanskrit, Panchakarma is an Ayurvedic treatment which involves a thorough removal of ama, restoring balance to your dosha. Because it’s intensive, it sometimes requires going on a brief retreat, although an Ayurvedic practitioner may be able to develop a program you can complete at home.

Either way, it’s important to consult with an Ayurvedic expert if you’re considering this treatment. That’s because the exact steps in a Panchakarma will vary depending on an individual’s needs.

Of course, these are just a few examples of treatments that help remove toxins. Remember that while you may not be able to avoid toxins in your life, you can prevent them from negatively affecting your health.
