A List of the Best Ayurvedic Drinks

PIOR Living / Ayurvedic Diet & Recipes / A List of the Best Ayurvedic Drinks

January 25, 2021 by Clare Michalik

Do you ever crave a soothing and natural herbal tea? Our culture is growing in the awareness and power that herbs can have for healing. Whether you’re looking to boost your digestion, build immunity, or cleanse your system, these four popular Ayurvedic drinks are the perfect starting point!

Ayurvedic Drinks

Agni Tea

Agni is the fire element and is directly correlated to your digestive fire, which regulates temperature, performs digestion (absorption and assimilation of food), and transforms food into energy. This Tea is an essential Ayurvedic drink because it helps stimulate your digestion for optimal functioning. Try this recipe from The Ayurvedic Institute.

  • 1-quart water
  • 1-pinch of cayenne
  • 2-handfuls minced ginger root
  • 2 Tbsp sweetener
  • 1 tsp Himalayan salt

Bring all ingredients except for the sweetener to a soft boil and boil for 15 minutes. Take the pot off the burner and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Then add the sweetener and squeeze ½ of lime into the mixture. Pour into a mug and enjoy. Note, if this may aggravate an out of balanced Pitta.

Chyawanprash

Chyawanprash is a Rasayana and is called the elixir of life in Ayurveda. It is a uniquely designed herbal formula of medicinal herbs, honey, and ghee known to rejuvenate the entire body, stimulate digestion, regulate elimination, and focus the mind for mental clarity. It’s renowned in Ayurveda because it contains all 6 tastes, making it the perfect balance of all doshas’ elements and qualities! Take Chyawanprash consistently for at least 2 weeks for the botanicals to take effect.

  • 1 tsp Chyawanprash
  • 12 oz of boiled water

Pour the boiled water into a mug and stir in 1 tsp of PIOR Living Chyawanprash.

Fenugreek and Fennel Tea

Have you ever noticed in Indian restaurants that they typically offer fennel seeds, sometimes candied ones, to nibble on before and after your meal? That’s because fennel is a digestive aid and stimulates your agni, which increases the digestibility of your meal. Fenugreek is another Indian staple and is excellent for cleansing. Try this simple tea from Joyful Belly to boost your digestion and cleanse your body.

  • ¼ cup fennel seeds
  • ½ cup fenugreek seeds
  • 6 cups of water

Bring the water to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Add the fenugreek and fennel seeds and heat on a low simmer for 30 minutes. Strain, and then pour into your mug.

Triphala Tea

Triphala is an Ayurvedic staple. It is a traditional formula that combines three Ayurvedic superfruits; Haritaki, Amalaki, and Bibhitaki. Combining these superfruits offers a unique ability to nourish your entire body while also gently cleansing your whole system. Triphala is best taken in the evening before bed, 3 hours after your last meal, with warm water. Be aware, Triphala powder is a medicinal formula and therefore is not the most pleasant tasting.

  • 1 tsp organic Triphala powder
  • 12 oz hot water

Boil water and then pour into a mug. Add the Triphala and stir in to mix thoroughly.
