Brahma Rasayana vs Chyawanprash: What are the similarities and differences?

PIOR Living / Chyawanprash / Brahma Rasayana vs Chyawanprash: What are the similarities and differences?

December 22, 2020 by Clare Michalik

Rejuvenation is one of the cornerstones in Ayurvedic healing. The truth is, many of us in the Western world have depleted ojas (vitality). Thus, we utilize ancient Ayurvedic remedies like nutritive jams Brahma Rasayana and Chyawanprash to help rebuild our strength and vigor in our journey towards optimal health. These herbal recipes are renowned for their healing capabilities. Understanding their differences and similarities may help you target your unique desire for rejuvenation.

The Similarities of Brahma Rasayana and Chyawanprash

Both Brahmi and Chyawanprash are incredibly beneficial as rejuvenating tonics in that they both work towards strengthening the immune system and building ojas. Similarly, each nutritive jam contains many of the same ingredients with Indian Gooseberry (Amla) being the main ingredient in each. Furthermore, each herbal jam helps improve mental strength and has anti-aging benefits.

Similarities

  • Use Amla as the main ingredient
  • Contain 30 of the same ingredients
  • Enhance memory, focus and immunity
  • Considered anti-aging and good for skin and hair
  • Suitable for all ages

The Difference of Brahma Rasayana and Chyawanprash

Brahma Rasayana and Chyawanprash are both very similar in their herbal recipes and overall capacity to help one heal and rejuvenate. Yet, each classic herbal remedy does stand apart in some areas. Lord Brahma, the God of Hinduism recommended the herbal jam Brahma Rasayana. However, Brahma Rasayana is lesser known as it is less available in Western markets, even though its formula is still approved and acknowledged by the Ayurvedic Formulary of India.

The most significant difference between Brahma Rasayana and Chyawanprash lies in their ability to target a specific region of the body. In Ayurveda, the term prabhava describes an unexpected action of a particular herb or formula on a specific region of the body, organ or system. Brahma Rasayana has a prabhava that specifically targets chronic stress, tiredness, fatigue, and aging. Chyawanprash is also a well known nutritive jam for aging and immunity. However, it has a prabhava for the respiratory system. Chyawanprash encourages proper movement of the digestive tract, which promotes the proper downward flow of energy—thus helping clear up any chest blockages.

Overall Differences

Brahma Rasayana

  • A higher amount of Haritaki
  • Targets fatigue, tiredness, laziness
  • Recommended by Lord Brahma

Chyawanprash

  • Targets respiratory health, reproductive, and sexual health
  • Good for asthma, bronchitis, cough, and cold
  • Useful for chest injuries
  • Strengthens voice
  • Promotes nourishment and growth of all tissues
  • Improves digestion power

Conclusion

Overall, Brahma Rasayana and Chyawanprash are both great nutritive jams that support total body rejuvenation. When choosing which is best for you, it is vital to select a brand and product that aligns with you and Nature.
